WIND MITIGATION INSPECTION Report

A wind mitigation inspection is an evaluation of a home's ability to withstand strong winds, particularly during hurricanes or severe storms. The primary goal of this inspection is to identify features that can help reduce the amount of damage a home might sustain during high-wind events.

Key Elements of a Wind Mitigation Inspection:

During a wind mitigation inspection, we look at several features of your home:

  • Roof Shape and Materials: The shape of the roof and the materials used can greatly impact its resistance to wind damage. For example, hip roofs are more wind-resistant than gable roofs.
  • Roof Deck Attachment: This checks how well the roof deck is fastened to the home’s structure. Proper nailing and spacing can prevent the roof from being lifted off during a storm.
  • Roof-to-Wall Connections: We assess how securely the roof is attached to the walls, looking for features like hurricane straps or clips that help keep the roof in place.
  • Opening Protection: We check for hurricane shutters or impact-resistant windows and doors to ensure they meet standards for wind resistance.
  • Exterior Wall Construction: The inspection reviews the materials used for the exterior walls, such as concrete block or brick, which can better withstand high winds.
  • Other Structural Features: Additional features, such as gable end bracing, are evaluated for their effectiveness in enhancing wind resistance.

4-POINT INSPECTION report

A 4-Point Inspection is a specific type of home inspection that focuses on four main systems of a property: the roof, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC (ventilation, and air conditioning). This inspection is often required by insurance companies for older homes (usually those over 30 years old) before they will issue or renew a homeowner's insurance policy.

Key Components of a 4-Point Inspection:

  • Roof: The inspector examines the age, condition, and type of roofing materials. They look for signs of wear and tear, damage, leaks, or any other issues that might compromise the roof's integrity. Insurance companies want to know that the roof is in good condition and likely to withstand future weather events.
  • Electrical System: The inspection includes a review of the electrical wiring, panels, circuit breakers, and other electrical components to ensure they are safe and up to current standards. The inspector checks for outdated or hazardous wiring types, such as knob-and-tube or aluminum wiring, and looks for signs of wear, improper installation, or code violations that could pose a fire risk.
  • Plumbing System: This part of the inspection focuses on the condition of the home's plumbing, including pipes, fixtures, water heaters, and other components. The inspector looks for leaks, outdated materials (such as polybutylene pipes), and signs of corrosion or damage that could lead to water damage or other issues.
  • HVAC System: The ventilation, and air conditioning system is reviewed to ensure it is functioning properly and efficiently. The inspector checks the age of the unit, the type of system in place, and its overall condition. They also look for any signs of inadequate maintenance or safety hazards.
